Services and Parts

We are a supplier of service parts that are required for over 58.44 million automobile vehicles running all around the world including Korea.
To ensure the seamless supply of 2.4 million items for over 193 vehicle variants, we have large scale infrastructure including a highly advanced logistics system, which allows us to meet the needs for service parts in a prompt and accurate manner, providing an unparalleled customer experience.

Our service parts business unit keeps improving the way service parts are supplied by, for example, rationalizing logistics hubs and launching advanced logistics systems early. It also prioritizes customer-centric operation to provide better experiences by improving how we interact and communicate with them. All these efforts are intended to meet customer expectations and demand, and we are stepping up the efforts by deploying large scale infrastructure (for logistics, inventory and systems) to ensure the seamless supply of service parts.

About Genuine Parts

Genuine parts mean parts identical to those used for the manufacturing of new vehicles by automakers. They are consistent with automakers’ quality and design requirements as declared by the automakers and are supplied under their responsibility.

Automakers involve auto parts suppliers as early as the design and production stages and appoint them to supply parts as original equipment manufacturers. Parts used when vehicles are assembled are made under strict production and quality management conditions so that vehicles incorporating them can run at an optimal condition.

Service parts are produced following the same process: they are delivered to automakers that will attach labels identifying genuine parts after inspection before marketing them for consumers. Automakers maintain large scale nation-wide distributors for easy access to the parts by consumers. They ensure that the distributors make information on the parts available and how relevant maintenance work should be done using them.

Automobile company in Korea rely on us to supply service parts for them. Therefore, we maintain about 2.4 million types of service parts for their vehicles that are running all around the world. Service parts are highly diversified even for the same variant in terms of, for example, which models they are for, what purposes they serve, what engine types they are for and which color they match. To address this wide diversity, we maintain a sales network of 12 distribution centers, 22 business units, 41 service parts teams and over 1,100 parts distributors in three regions of the country for timely and accurate delivery of the right parts to customers.

Characteristics and Classification

Characteristics of service parts

Service parts for vehicles are different from regular consumer goods in terms of their intended use, the way consumers choose them and what functions they perform. For regular consumer goods, there are choices for consumers to make based on their individual preferences.

For service parts, in contrast, choices are highly limited because specific vehicles require specific service parts that are consistent with their corresponding original parts in terms of specifications and quality. For regular consumer goods, suppliers can be flexible in meeting customer needs because they have a wide range of choices.

Suppliers of service parts, however, can hardly expect such flexibility because many of the parts are not interchangeable. Shortage of a specific part leads to impossibility to provide service for vehicles in need of that part. Service parts suppliers must, therefore, have sufficient inventory and systematically managed logistics and distribution systems.

Classification of service parts

Service parts for vehicles can be classified into three categories based on their characteristics and why they are needed.

Consumable

This category includes those that should be replaced on a regular basis throughout the service life of vehicles. Most of the components that are familiar to consumers belong to this category. These are engine oil, wipers and air filters, to name a few. Depending on the distance that the vehicle has covered and the environment in which it operates, consumables need to be replaced on a regular basis to avoid any negative impact on the performance and the safety they can provide.

Functional

Components that belong to this category are those that must be replaced when they lose their functionality. Most of them relate to the engine, transmission or lamps. Many functional parts affect the driving performance of a vehicle. Therefore, two of the most important requirements are quality and connectivity to other components of the vehicle.

Accident

Related Parts that belong to this category require replacement when they are damaged due to a vehicle crash. Examples include bumpers, panels and safety glazing. Experience and know-how are required for distribution and inventory management because demand for these parts is not easily predictable, and many of them are large in scale.

The classification above is not applicable to all vehicle spare parts because they are highly diversified, and each has many variants. To address such a challenge, we continue to refine the classification to accommodate their characteristics as wide as possible.
